This is 11/11 in a series inspired by the id game.
JOHN ROMERO’S HEAD ON A STICK You could only see this by using the idclip cheat code at the end of the game.  The true final boss of DOOM!  Amazing.  (Just in case you’re not sure who Romero is.)
There ends the second series. With a head on a stick!

This is 10/11 in a series inspired by the id game.
COMMANDER KEEN This was another easter egg with reference to Apogee/id’s early sidescroller.  They’re not so subtly telling us that they’ve switch design directions.  Oh, and btw Commander Keen was awesome!

This is 09/11 in a series inspired by the id game.
Now we’re on to the secret characters.
WOLFENSTEIN SS An easter egg reference to Castle Wolfenstein 3D. (They only had front facing sprites for firing, so if they started shooting at each other it would still look like they were shooting at you.)

FINAL BOSS He’s wall sized, spawns enemies all around you, and has a rocket sized hole in his head. A hole with a  secret inside…

ARCH-VILE “Not only does he summon the fire elementals to watch you go up in flames, he revives already dead demons while he’s at it.” (manual)
The naked lightning demon. Things would always get tense when one of these guys showed up.

ARACHNOTRON “Smaller than the Spider Mastermind, and a lot harder to kill, but there are a lot more of these guys. Watch for its BFG9000-like green plasma.” (manual)

Wow, thanks for all the links!

When I started, I never thought I’d get so much attention with these little guys! It’s been pretty cool finding sites with articles on my series. Especially ones in languages that google hilariously translates. For instance a Spanish gaming site post translated as “Doom and small puppets pixelated” Amazing.

I figure they may have sent you here, so I should return the favour. Here are some of the articles I’ve come across.

REVENANT “These huge skeletons are just cruel. They punch and kick the life out of you, and also enjoy launching flaming rockets into your torso.” (manual)

*edit - Ha, someone commented that he looks like some crazy smiling robot, and now that’s all I can see. Of course he’s still firing rockets, but now they’re from his eyes!

MANCUBUS “He is fat, ugly, and likes shooting enormous fireballs into you from his arms.” (manual)
This guy was really fun to redesign. The original is easily the most disgusting of the DOOM II enemies, but now look at him.

HELL KNIGHT “Slightly easier to kill than our friend the Baron, but appear in larger numbers.” (manual)
I know, this guy is really just a palette shift of the Baron of Hell but I’m doing them all! Besides he looks pretty cool with the Soul Spheres. As if he’s daring you to go for them.
